This approach, characterized by automation and scale through systems like Lavender and Gospel, accelerates targeting but risks valuing computational efficiency over human judgment and international law. While AI proponents argue it can reduce human bias, its use in Gaza has enabled an unprecedented tempo of strikes and a high casualty rate, shifting moral responsibility to algorithms. To mitigate these risks, the author proposes policy measures including tighter export controls, enforcing auditability, and codifying international rules for AI in targeting.
