West Bank: Israeli authorities force Palestinian man to pay to demolish his own home

Israeli authorities forced a Palestinian man to demolish his own home in the Shu'fat refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem. Abdallah Hawwas received a demolition order from the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem for two apartments he had constructed, citing they were not "permitted." To avoid hefty fines, Hawwas had to carry out the demolition himself, which displaced seven members of his family. He was also required to pay an estimated 30,000 shekels ($8,924) to rent the machinery for the demolition.
