US military starts moving Islamic State prisoners from Syria to Iraq

The US military has begun transferring Islamic State (IS) prisoners from northeastern Syria to secure locations in Iraq. This action follows the Syrian army taking control of areas previously administered by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), including the al-Hol camp. US Central Command stated that up to 7,000 IS detainees could ultimately be moved to Iraqi facilities. Human rights organizations have warned that these prisoners face a significant risk of torture, unfair summary trials, and execution upon transfer to Iraq.
