United Nations renews Lebanon peacekeeping force until 2026

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously extended its long-running peacekeeping mission in Lebanon until the end of 2026. The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which was established in 1978, patrols the southern border between Lebanon and Israel. After the extension ends in 2026, the operation will commence a year-long, orderly drawdown and withdrawal of its forces.
