UN official calls potential Israeli takeover of Gaza 'deeply alarming'

A United Nations official described reports of a potential expansion of Israel's military operations throughout the Gaza Strip as "deeply alarming." During a Security Council meeting, UN assistant secretary general Miroslav Jenca stated that such a move would risk catastrophic consequences and could further endanger the lives of the remaining hostages. He also affirmed that international law is clear that Gaza must remain an integral part of a future Palestinian state.
