UN expert calls on EU to pressure Israel for release of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has called on European Union leaders to pressure Israel for the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya. Abu Safiya, a paediatrician and former director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, is being held by Israel without charge and has allegedly faced severe torture in detention. Albanese's appeal, made on the social media platform X, also urged the EU to intervene for the freedom of thousands of other Palestinian hostages held by Israel. She emphasized that they, like Israeli hostages, have a right to return home.
