UK says it will recognise a Palestinian state in September unless Israel agrees to ceasefire

The UK has declared it will formally recognize the state of Palestine in September, but only if Israel does not agree to a ceasefire and commit to a two-state solution before then. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has faced mounting pressure from parliament members to support a two-state solution, with 220 MPs signing a letter urging him to recognize Palestine. Starmer recalled his cabinet from their summer recess to approve the plan. Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced the decision at a United Nations conference in New York.
