UK medical regulator to appeal decision clearing Palestinian surgeon of misconduct

The UK's General Medical Council (GMC) plans to appeal a tribunal ruling that cleared Palestinian surgeon Ghassan Abu Sittah of misconduct. The original complaints were filed by a British pro-Israel group regarding his public statements and writings after he worked as a surgeon in Gaza during the war. Abu Sittah accuses the GMC of being "weaponised as a tool of political repression" and acting under political pressure in service of Israel. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service had previously dismissed the allegations, finding no basis for a finding of misconduct.
