UK grants asylum to Palestinian citizen of Israel over fear of persecution

The United Kingdom has granted asylum to a Palestinian citizen of Israel who feared persecution for his pro-Palestine activism and for calling Israel an "apartheid regime". The man, referred to as Hasan, is understood to be the first Palestinian with an Israeli passport to receive this status in the UK. His refugee status was confirmed after a legal battle where the UK Home Office attempted to block the claim, despite caseworkers finding he had a "well-founded" fear of persecution. The Home Secretary at the time reportedly intervened to pressure the department to refuse the claim after it gained media attention.
