Turkish prosecutors seek 2,000-year sentence for Ekrem Imamoglu

Turkish prosecutors are seeking a prison sentence of over 2,000 years for Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, a prominent opposition leader. An indictment charges Imamoglu with running a criminal organization, bribery, embezzlement, and other offenses, describing him as being "like an octopus" in his control of a criminal network. The Republican People's Party (CHP) has denounced the charges as politically motivated by President Erdogan's government to eliminate a key rival.
