Tunisian opposition activist Chaima Issa has started a hunger strike to protest the violence she allegedly experienced during her recent arrest. Her arrest was to enforce a 20-year prison sentence she received in a controversial mass trial for "conspiracy against state security." Issa and dozens of other opposition figures were sentenced in a trial condemned by rights groups as politically motivated, with accusations including meeting with foreign diplomats. The crackdown is part of a wider suppression of dissent under President Kais Saied.
