Syrian military cadets to begin schooling in Turkey

Turkish military academies will begin educating dozens of Syrian military cadets, marking a deepening of defense ties between the two countries. This initiative is part of a broader military accord signed in August, under which Turkey is already training hundreds of Syrian soldiers and police with plans to expand the program significantly. The cooperation follows a formal request for military assistance from Syria's new government, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, in response to Israeli air strikes and regional instability. Ankara and Damascus are also discussing a more extensive defense pact, potentially involving Turkish troop deployments to major Syrian bases, amid US-encouraged deconfliction talks between Turkey and Israel.
