Russian territorial gains in Ukraine slowed overall in August before picking up late in the month, leading to the capture of two villages in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Russia continued its airstrikes, including a major attack on Kyiv, one of the largest since the invasion began. In late August, Ukrainian drone strikes hit Russian refineries, disrupting about 17 percent of the country's refining capacity. These attacks resulted in significant fuel shortages within Russia.
