Sudanese government announces return to capital Khartoum

The Sudanese government has announced its return to the capital, Khartoum, after decamping to Port Sudan in 2023 at the beginning of the civil war. The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has displaced nearly 13 million people. The RSF, which receives support from the UAE, currently controls five states in the Darfur region. Meanwhile, the SAF-allied government controls the remaining 13 states, and both factions have been accused of war crimes.
