Social media accounts linked to Sudan's RSF are based in the UAE

An investigation has found that several social media accounts linked to Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its affiliated parallel government are operating from the United Arab Emirates. Using a new location feature on X, it was discovered that accounts for the RSF-backed interior ministry, its UN representative, and other key supporters are based in the UAE. Some accounts, including that of a politician who sided with the RSF, list their location as Sudan but are shown to be managed from the Emirates. The findings also extend to propaganda accounts spreading pro-RSF narratives, suggesting a coordinated information campaign run out of the UAE to influence perceptions of the Sudanese conflict.
