Russia slams Israeli plan to expand Gaza military assault

Russia has denounced Israel’s plans to widen its military assault on the Gaza Strip, warning it could further inflame the crisis. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said such moves “provoke condemnation and rejection” and risk deepening the “already extremely dramatic” conditions. The ministry described the situation in the besieged Palestinian enclave as bearing “all the hallmarks of a humanitarian catastrophe.”
