Reform candidate Matt Goodwin: From 'liberal left' to Islamophobia sceptic

Right-wing commentator and former academic Matt Goodwin has been announced as the Reform UK party's candidate for a by-election in Greater Manchester. Goodwin has a history of making controversial statements about Islam, Muslims, and ethnicity, including questioning whether British-born people with immigrant parents are truly British. His selection is notable given he previously studied the far-right and even advised the government on tackling anti-Muslim hatred. These views are expected to be a central issue in the campaign, especially in a constituency where more than a quarter of the voters are Muslim.
