Palestinian prisoners face ‘hunger, overcrowding and violence’, Israeli report finds

An official Israeli report from the Public Defender's Office has revealed that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention are suffering from extreme hunger, overcrowding, and systematic violence. The report, based on visits in 2023 and 2024, found that the Israel Prison Service introduced a sparse menu for Palestinian prisoners, leading to severe malnutrition and extreme weight loss. Detainees also reported frequent, unprovoked physical abuse and beatings by prison staff. Despite a Supreme Court ruling ordering the state to provide adequate food, these conditions have reportedly not improved.
