Palestine and statehood: How it might happen and what it would mean

Israel’s military actions in Gaza, which have killed over 62,000 Palestinians, have increased international pressure to recognize Palestinian statehood. While formal recognition has been growing since the 1980s, Western nations have more recently begun to endorse it. France has announced its intention to recognize the State of Palestine at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly. This would make France the first G7 nation to do so, a move President Emmanuel Macron described as part of a commitment to a just peace in the Middle East.
