Northwestern University president resigns from post after backlash over pro-Palestine protests

Northwestern University president Michael Schill has announced his resignation following accusations that he did not adequately address antisemitism on campus. The backlash stemmed from the university's handling of widespread pro-Palestine student protests last spring. Northwestern had been one of the first universities to end its encampments without police involvement, promising greater investment transparency and support for Palestinian scholars. Subsequently, the Trump administration cut about $790 million in federal funds from the school, leading to around 425 layoffs.
