More than 80 filmmakers, including Tilda Swinton and Javier Bardem, signed an open letter denouncing the Berlin International Film Festival for alleged censorship regarding the conflict in Gaza. The letter accuses the festival of silencing those who speak out about the plight of Palestinians, citing past instances of reprimand. This protest was partly a response to comments by jury head Wim Wenders, who suggested filmmaking should remain separate from politics. The controversy also led author Arundhati Roy to pull out of the festival.
