Mamdani says he will keep New York City pension fund out of Israel Bonds

New York City's Democratic mayoral nominee, Zohran Mamdani, stated that he believes the city's pension funds should not be invested in Israel Bonds. He cited the country's violations of international law as the reason for his stance, expressing support for the current comptroller's approach. When pressed on divesting from other companies doing business with Israel, Mamdani reiterated that the city must determine where its funds are directly implicated in illegal activities. As of last year, the New York State Common Retirement Fund held about $352 million in Israel Bonds, while NYC's own pension funds ended a 50-year investment history in 2023.
