Lebanon begins disarming Palestinian groups linked to Fatah

Lebanon has begun the process of disarming Palestinian resistance groups, starting with factions linked to Fatah. Lebanese Armed Forces were observed entering the Burj al-Barajneh refugee camp in Beirut to oversee the handover of weapons. This move is part of a wider effort by the Lebanese government to assert its authority across the country, including in the 12 Palestinian refugee camps where its forces have historically not entered. The disarmament follows an agreement between the Lebanese and Palestinian presidents and occurs amid pressure to also disarm Hezbollah. It is currently unclear if the plan will also apply to Hamas, which operates in Lebanon but is at odds with Fatah.
