Kurdish-led SDF and the Syrian government agree to stop deadly fighting in Aleppo

The Syrian government and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have agreed to a ceasefire in Aleppo after deadly clashes killed at least two people. Both sides blamed each other for initiating the violence but have since instructed their forces to halt the fighting. The clashes occurred during a visit by Turkey's Foreign Minister, who has previously warned the SDF to integrate with the Damascus government. This de-escalation follows a stalled agreement from March to merge the SDF with the Syrian army, a failure which risks derailing the country's recovery from its civil war.
