Israel fails to comply with UN’s 12-month deadline to end occupation

A United Nations General Assembly deadline for Israel to end its occupation of the Palestinian territories of Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem has expired without compliance. The one-year ultimatum was established by a UNGA resolution in September 2024, following an International Court of Justice advisory opinion that declared the occupation illegal. Israel has reportedly not complied, instead expanding settlements and continuing its military actions in Gaza. The resolution called on states to take action, and a bloc of nations known as The Hague Group is now expected to announce collective measures against Israel.
