Iran overturns death sentence for Kurdish leftist leader Verisheh Moradi

Iran's Supreme Court has overturned the death sentence for Kurdish leftist leader Verisheh Moradi, citing procedural deficiencies in the original conviction. Moradi, a member of the Community of Free Women of Eastern Kurdistan (KJAR), was initially sentenced for "armed rebellion" after supporting the Mahsa Amini protests. She had previously fought against the Islamic State group in Syria and was accused of membership in the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK), an Iranian wing of the PKK. The case has been referred back to the lower court for further proceedings amid international criticism of Iran's use of the death penalty.
