Inside Khartoum: Sudan’s ravaged capital where paramilitaries looted history

Sudan's capital, Khartoum, has been ravaged by civil war, leaving government buildings, hospitals, and historic sites looted and destroyed. The destruction is the legacy of the conflict between the Sudanese military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which established a reign of terror in the city. This war erupted from a power struggle between army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan and RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who had previously ruled together after ousting former president Omar al-Bashir. While some residents are slowly returning, vital parts of the nation's heritage and infrastructure have been lost forever.
