Over 300 people have died in the last two months in a Sudanese prison in North Darfur run by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The deaths in Shala prison, southwest of el-Fasher, are attributed to deteriorating health conditions, a cholera outbreak, and the denial of medical treatment. The RSF, which has controlled the prison since October, is accused of numerous severe human rights violations, including executions and leaving the bodies of the dead with living detainees. The prison is reported to hold 9,000 civilians, while the city of el-Fasher itself is described as largely destroyed with tens of thousands of people potentially trapped.
