Human Rights Watch calls for overturning 'politically motivated' convictions in Tunisia
https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/human-rights-group-decries-politically-motivated-court-case-tunisia-1(www.middleeasteye.net)Human Rights Watch has called on Tunisia's judiciary to overturn the convictions of 37 people accused of planning to destabilize the country. The rights group decried the case as a politically motivated crackdown on dissent, stating the charges are unfounded and not based on credible evidence. The defendants, including activists and political opponents, were sentenced to long prison terms in a process HRW says was marred by irregularities and lacked due process. Some of the detainees, such as opposition leader Jaouhar Ben Mbarek, have begun hunger strikes to protest their conditions.
