A UN investigator has stated that atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan's el-Fasher bear the hallmarks of genocide. According to Mona Rishmawi of the UN Fact-Finding Mission, the RSF's takeover of the North Darfur capital involved the encirclement and mass killing of non-Arab groups on a scale more severe than previous campaigns. The mission's report urges an immediate halt to the flow of weapons to the RSF, noting widespread evidence linking the United Arab Emirates to arms supplies. This is the first time the UN mission has reached a conclusion on genocide during the current conflict, which began in April 2023.
