Gift to Palestinians from Scottish firefighters seized by Israel, may be sent back to UK: Report

A fire engine donated by Scottish firefighters to Nablus in the occupied West Bank has been seized by Israeli authorities. The vehicle has been impounded at the Port of Ashdod for 15 months, with Israel citing its right-hand drive as the reason, and has accrued over $21,000 in fees. Despite campaigns by the UK's Fire Brigades Union and a precedent for retrofitting such vehicles, Israeli authorities have not released it. The UK government is now involved in discussions about potentially repatriating the fire engine to avoid the exorbitant fees being charged to the Nablus governorate.
