A decade after its publication, the futuristic war novel Ghost Fleet accurately predicted the strategic shift to great power competition with China, the rise of autonomous drones, and the danger of vulnerable supply chains. The authors warn that the U.S. military remains over-reliant on complex technology while adversaries develop novel ways to exploit its cyber and industrial weaknesses. If rewriting the book today, they would place a far greater emphasis on the disruptive impact of information warfare and internal political division on America's ability to respond to a crisis. This method of using "fictional intelligence" to explore future scenarios has since been adopted by the U.S. military and its allies as a serious analytical tool for strategic planning.
