A United Nations-backed global hunger monitor has declared that over half a million people are trapped in famine in Gaza City and its surrounding towns. This declaration follows warnings about increasing starvation due to Israel's campaign of denying aid, food, and basic essentials to the besieged territory. The Integrated Food Phase Classification (IPC) reported that 30 percent of households are at a "catastrophic level" of hunger. The number of people facing famine is expected to rise to nearly 650,000 within six weeks, prompting warnings of unacceptable increases in mortality without immediate action.
