G20 Summit Outcomes: Multilateralism Survives

The G20 summit was hosted for the first time in Africa, with South Africa leading the event under the theme “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.” While most member countries sent heads of state, the United States boycotted the summit, and leaders from China and Russia sent high-level delegations instead. The resulting leaders' declaration focused on priorities like climate change, debt sustainability, energy transitions, and AI innovation. Despite the U.S. absence, South Africa's presidency was considered a success for securing a consensus declaration among the remaining members. The summit's outcomes are seen as an indicator of a multipolar world order taking shape, where agile forums like the G20 are in greater demand.
