Former NYC hate crimes head sues mayor Eric Adams for discrimination: Report

The former head of New York City’s hate crimes prevention office, Hassan Naveed, is suing Mayor Eric Adams for religious and racial discrimination. Naveed alleges he experienced a hostile work environment due to his Muslim identity, particularly after the 7 October Hamas-led attacks. The lawsuit claims Adams told Muslim colleagues they were experiencing hate as a consequence of failing to adequately condemn Hamas and compared pro-Palestine marches to KKK protests. Naveed was terminated in April 2024, with the mayor's office citing poor job performance.
