Fears grow Emirati dissident forcibly disappeared in Syria could be extradited to UAE

Emirati dissident and political activist Jassem al-Shamsi has been forcibly disappeared in Syria, sparking fears he could be extradited to the United Arab Emirates. Shamsi was seized by Syrian security forces near Damascus on November 6th, and his family has been denied access to him. He was previously jailed in the UAE's "UAE 94" mass trial for advocating democratic reforms and later sentenced to life in prison in absentia on new terrorism-related charges. His family believes his arrest is directly related to his political status in the UAE and not any activity within Syria.
