Israeli forces killed 36 Palestinians in Gaza and arrested at least 70 others in mass raids in the occupied West Bank. Diplomatically, the United Nations General Assembly voted to allow Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to address its gathering via video after the United States denied him a visa. The US administration is also seeking congressional approval for a nearly $6 billion weapons sale to Israel, while Portugal is set to recognize a Palestinian state.
