European nations to form atrocity prevention coalition for Sudan after UN report

A group of European nations, including the UK and Germany, are forming an atrocity prevention coalition for Sudan. This move directly responds to a scathing UN report concluding that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) committed genocide in the Darfur region. The UN investigation found the RSF intentionally targeted non-Arab communities during its siege and capture of the city of el-Fasher. The new coalition is now calling for the protection of civilians, an expanded UN arms embargo, and accountability for the atrocities.
