Displaced northerners 'feel safer' in south Yemen after STC withdrawal

Displaced families from northern Yemen are experiencing relief in the south after the collapse of the separatist Southern Transitional Council's (STC) control in Aden. For years, the STC treated these northerners with suspicion, imposing movement restrictions, carrying out detentions, and forcibly evicting them. Following clashes with government forces and Saudi-backed air strikes, the STC's authority crumbled, its forces withdrew from Aden, and its leader reportedly fled the country. As a result, the constant pressure and threat of persecution have eased, allowing displaced people who had fled the war to feel safer in southern governorates.
