‘Cruellest violation’: Saudi Arabia executes second child offender in two months

Saudi Arabia has executed Abdullah al-Derazi for crimes allegedly committed when he was 17 years old. The charges stemmed from his participation in protests against the treatment of the kingdom's Shia minority. This execution marks the second of a child offender in two months and violates international law, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Saudi Arabia is a signatory. Human rights groups report that Derazi was tortured and forced to sign a confession under duress after his arrest in 2014.
