China’s AI Is Spreading Fast. Here’s How to Stop the Security Risks

The global adoption of Chinese-origin AI models is surging, creating significant national security risks for the United States. These threats include supply chain poisoning through undetectable backdoors, intelligence collection on users, and the potential for economic displacement. Because Chinese tech companies are subject to their country's National Intelligence Law, their AI systems could be used to support government intelligence activities. To mitigate these risks, potential U.S. policy responses include designating AI repositories as critical supply chains, creating standardized testing protocols, and extending software liability frameworks to cover AI model distribution platforms.
