Tech companies often over-hype their AI systems for military use, creating a gap between marketing claims and what is realistically achievable in complex warfare scenarios. The proprietary, "black box" nature of this technology poses a significant challenge, as militaries require transparency to ensure AI is used safely, ethically, and effectively. This creates a dilemma where commercial incentives for secrecy conflict with the public interest in responsible and auditable military systems. To counter this, governments must develop robust internal expertise and AI literacy to critically assess these technologies, rather than simply procuring them as off-the-shelf solutions.
