Belgium sets conditions as it recognises Palestine

Belgium has moved to recognise Palestinian statehood at a United Nations session, but has attached several significant preconditions. Prime Minister Bart De Wever stated that full diplomatic relations would only be established following the reform of the Palestinian Authority, the demilitarisation of Hamas, and democratic elections. Additionally, formal recognition is contingent on the release of all captives held by Hamas. This action occurred during the UN General Assembly, where other nations like France, Luxembourg, Malta, and Portugal also recognised the State of Palestine.
