Baghdad says it will prosecute Islamic State detainees transferred from Syria

Iraq will prosecute Islamic State group prisoners who are being moved from prisons in northeastern Syria to Iraq under a US-brokered deal. This transfer follows the Syrian army's seizure of detention centers from the Syrian Democratic Forces. Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council confirmed that the transferred detainees will be investigated and tried in local courts, regardless of their nationality or role within the group.
