At least 23 people were killed in Pakistan during protests that erupted following the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a US-Israeli strike. The anger was particularly strong among Pakistan's large Shia population, which viewed Khamenei as a spiritual leader. Protesters clashed with security forces and targeted US diplomatic facilities, with some managing to breach the outer gate of the consulate in Karachi. In response to the unrest, the US embassy cancelled all visa appointments and consular services. The violence also spread to the northern region of Gilgit-Baltistan, where an office of a UN observer group was set on fire.
