Al Jazeera appoints new director general, unveils major leadership changes

The Al Jazeera Media Network has announced a major leadership restructuring, appointing former Qatari foreign ministry official Nasser Bin Faisal al-Thani as its new director general. The changes also include the creation of a new post, director of Al Jazeera channels, which will be filled by Ahmad Alyafei who will have complete editorial oversight. Other new appointments were made for the managing directors of the Al Jazeera English and Arabic channels. These leadership changes come as the Qatar-funded broadcaster has seen a resurgence in popularity due to its extensive coverage of the war in Gaza.
