Aid cuts push Yemen towards catastrophe as famine pockets feared: Report

The International Rescue Committee warns that Yemen is rapidly sliding towards a food-security catastrophe, with pockets of famine expected to affect over 40,000 people within two months. More than half the population, around 18 million people, are projected to face worsening food insecurity in early 2026 due to over a decade of conflict, economic collapse, and displacement. The crisis is severely exacerbated by sharp reductions in humanitarian funding, with the 2025 aid response being the weakest in a decade. These funding cuts have forced the cancellation of many foreign aid programs and led to the shutdown of essential services like clean water and healthcare.
