An Egyptian-Dutch activist initiated a protest by chaining the gates of Egypt's embassy in The Hague to protest the country's perceived complicity in Israel's war on Gaza. This act was filmed and inspired a wave of similar protests by Egyptian exiles in other countries, such as Turkey. In response to these international demonstrations, the Egyptian state has reportedly launched a campaign of repression. This campaign has not been limited to the activists abroad but has also targeted their families still living in Egypt.
