A Guide to Collaborating With (and Not Surrendering to) AI in the Military Classroom

A middle ground is necessary for integrating Artificial Intelligence into professional military education classrooms. While embracing AI is crucial, institutions must avoid undermining the intellectual development of future leaders. Students who are permitted to take intellectual shortcuts without mastering basic skills like research and reasoning will be unprepared to partner with AI and could become vulnerable to systems sabotaged by adversaries. The proposed approach requires students to learn to leverage AI while also demonstrating mastery of foundational skills without technological assistance, ensuring they can critically evaluate AI output.
